Voice and cello for an artist who is establishing herself as one of the new names on the world scene. Her name is Ana Carla Maza, and she is Cuban: with a Chilean father, the saxophonist Carlos Maza, and a Cuban mother, she began playing the cello at the age of 8 and made her first stage appearance in Havana, her hometown, at just 10 years old. At 13, she participated in the Carlos Maza en Familia project, and at 14, she played on another album under her father’s label, Quererte.
In 2012, she moved to Paris to study at the conservatory and began a solo career that has taken her to perform all over Europe and meet cellist Vincent Segal, who has been a great source of inspiration for her. In 2016, she released Solo Acoustic Concert, and in 2020, La Flor: both albums include Latin rhythms, pop songs, jazz harmonies, and classical technique, as well as the subsequent Bahia, released in February 2022.
The latest stage of Ana Carla Maza’s musical journey is currently represented by Caribe, an album released in the fall of 2023. Produced by Ana Carla herself, Caribe is the result of diverse influences, including cumbia, son, bossa, samba, tango, rumba, reggae, and salsa. The lyrics, sung in French and Spanish, add a touch of sensuality to the mix.
