Daniel García is one of the most exciting and influential voices of the new generation of Spanish jazz, as are his two partners. His latest trio album is Vía de la Plata, recorded for the prestigious German label ACT with the collaboration of guests such as Ibrahim Maalouf, Anat Cohen, and Gerardo Núñez. Daniel García delves deep into the music of his land, combining jazz, classical music, electronics, rock, and other influences, in a highly personal and recognizable narrative. The result is a sound of strong expressive value, with a unique timbre, where rhythmic intensity merges with deep melodic lyricism and sophisticated harmony, for music that is both poetic and provocative.
Daniel Garcia resides in Madrid and carries within him the deep sense of history that has shaped him: he was indeed born and raised in Salamanca, a city steeped in history, with several important archaeological sites. The city was also one of the main stops on the Via de la Plata (“the silver road”), a Roman route from the north to the south of the Iberian Peninsula. Clear, reflective, and aware when he speaks, Garcia has both an understanding and a passion for what that ancient silver thread represents for his country and himself.
